# Window-cleaning robots: do they save enough work to be worth it?

Window robots can reduce risky wiping, but per-pane setup, supervision and safety can erase the convenience.

## Window robots have a different bottleneck

Cleaning power is only part of the job. A person may still need to attach the robot, secure a tether, move it pane to pane, refill spray, wash pads and supervise awkward windows. That human workflow determines whether the robot actually saves time.

## The best current evidence is encouraging—but narrow

CHIP’s W3 OMNI test found strong cleaning, long runtime and a useful station. But even a good device can be a poor fit for many small panes or older window structures if setup dominates the job.

## A category-wide warning

Recent hands-on commentary on current window robots highlights the risk of constant supervision, smears in corners and difficult retrieval when a robot gets stuck. That makes safety and intervention data at least as important as cleaning quality.

## Useworthy buyer test

- Minutes of setup per pane
- Number of repositionings per whole-home clean
- Pad/solution maintenance
- Stuck/slip incidents
- Whether exterior access becomes safer
